Guides

Here's a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) for those of you who are new and find the guides and tutorials a bit confusing. If you think any questions should be added to this page, feel free to message or e-mail me! :D Many, MANY thanks to the following contributors for helping me answer these questions: Becky #21 (Sections 2 and 7), Jenny #61 (Sections 4 and 5), Nasire #3 (Section 6), and Trinity #33 (Sections 1 and 3).

Joining Tygras.com

1.1 How do I join Tygras.com? Visit the Tygras.com home page, and click on the button that says "Join Tygras.com Now!". If, for whatever reason, you can't view the button, click here to be taken directly to the registration page. 1.2 What is a login name? This is your username. It cannot be changed, and you need to know it in order to log on to Tygras. 1.3 What is a playing name? This is the name that everyone else will see on Tygras. It can be changed, unlike your login name. 1.4 What if I don't have an e-mail address? You will need an e-mail address in order to receive your confirmation e-mail. If you don't have an e-mail address, you can create one for free at Gmail or other such websites. 1.5 Will Tygras send me spam (unwanted) mail? No. The only e-mails you should receive from Tygras are your confirmation e-mail, and other confirmation messages that you may request from the site (ex. changing your e-mail address). 1.6 What are the Terms of Service (TOS)? The Tygras TOS can be viewed here, and contains a list of guidelines as to what is and is not acceptable behavior on Tygras. 1.7 How many accounts can I have on Tygras? Two accounts is the limit for all Tygras members. You are allowed to trade accounts with other members, but the total number of accounts in your possession at any given time may not exceed two. 1.8 My confirmation e-mail never arrived! What do I do? Try checking your junk mail and spam mail folders first. If you can't find your confirmation e-mail in either folder, send an e-mail to admin@tygras.com with all relevant information.

Getting Started

2.1 What is a Tygra? A Tygra is a big cat that you can breed for cool markings and color combinations. There are three species: the Lymber, Ocilynx, and Pygmy. 2.2 How do I get a Tygra? You can either purchase a Tygra from another user with Tygra Credits (TC), or donate real-life money for Tygra Points (TGP), and use those to purchase keys, which allow you to create custom Tygra. There is a great tutorial, written by Jenny (#61), on how to get your first tygra! 2.3 Where is my den? Click on "Home", then "Your Den". 2.4 How do I arrange the Tygras in my den? Go to Your Den and click on Den Ordering, then drag the thumbnails around in the order you wish. You can also go to each Tygra's page, and give a specific order number (1-2000) in their info box. 2.5 Where can I view my profile? Click on "Home", then "View Profile". 2.6 How do I change my name/descriptions/password/e-mail/tag? Click on "Home", then "Account Setup". There, you can go through the different tabs (Information, Password, Tag, and Email) to alter your information. Make sure you click "Update" once you're done, otherwise none of your changes will be saved. 2.7 How do I earn Tygra Credits (TC)? The easiest way to earn TC is by working (see 2.8 for more information). You can also sell Tygra, items, and artwork for TC, as well as trade other games' currency for TC. 2.8 How often and where can I work? You can work once each hour at one of four shops: Cave of Wonders, Rose's Royal Regalia, Heath's Trinket Shop, and the Monastery Shop. This is once per hour, not once every 60 minutes, so even if you worked at 5:59 PM, you can work again at 6:00 PM. You can reach each store by clicking on "World" and their respective names, with the exception of the Monastery Shop (to reach it, you click on "World", then "Monastery", then "Monastery Shop"). You earn one Work XP credit for each hour worked. XP adds up for pay raises, but you must exclusively work at one store. If you work at a different store, all of your past XP credits will be lost, and you will start back at the beginning salary, so once you pick a store to work at, stick with it. To find out which store you are working at, as well as what level you are and how much XP you have, go to "Home", then "Your Quests". 2.9 How much do I earn every time I work? Note that these are salaries for regular/non-upgraded members. Upgraded members receive 1.5x/50% more of the regular salary (so for level 0, you would receive 30 TC instead of 20 TC).
Level 0 (0-5 XP): $20 TC
Level 1 (6-10 XP): $21 TC
Level 2 (11-20 XP): $23 TC
Level 3 (21-35 XP): $26 TC
Level 4 (36-50 XP): $30 TC
Level 5 (51-70 XP): $35 TC
Level 6 (71-100 XP): $41 TC
Level 7 (101-130 XP): $48 TC
Level 8 (131-170 XP): $55 TC
Level 9 (171-215 XP): $62 TC
Level 10 (216-1000 XP): $70 TC
Level 11 (1001+ XP): $72 TC
2.10 How do I earn Activity Tokens (AT)? You can earn AT via: random events site-wide, working (at random, not every time), posting in the forums (at random, not every time), being in the live chat room (at random, Chat Daemon will award them), buying items worth at least 250 TC, and buying items with TGP. 2.11 Where and how can I use Activity Tokens (AT)? Click on "World", then "Activity Token Shop". The only "items" you can purchase at the moment are two account perks: the Mini-Icon, and the Signature. The Mini-Icon allows you to display a small icon to the left of your name in the forums for seven days, and costs 25 AT. The Signature allows you to display up to 225 characters of text at the end of your forum posts. Links are allowed, but images are not. The Signature option will never expire once you have purchased it, and costs 300 AT. 2.12 How do I preview a Tygra's image? In each den, there is a (pawprint) symbol over the Tygra's name. Click on the pawprint to pull up a larger image of the Tygra without having to go to its page. To hide the preview, simply click on the Tygra's image, or click on "Hide" below the image. 2.13 My Tygra's image isn't showing up correctly, how can I fix it? You can try clicking on the Tygra's image as you are viewing its information page, or you can hit Ctrl + F5 on your computer (which will reload the image). If your Tygra still isn't showing up correctly, you may want to file a report (click here to view the page/form). 2.14 How can I tell if a Tygra is up for sale? On a den's page: To the right of a Tygra's thumbnail, there should be an information box. Tygra that are for sale will have a ($) symbol listed as their status.
On a Tygra's page: To the right of a Tygra's image, there should be an information section. The sale section will either state a price in TC that the Tygra can be purchased for, or it will say "Not For Sale".
2.15 How can I tell if a Tygra is available for breeding? On a den's page: To the right of a Tygra's thumbnail, there should be an information box. Tygra that are available for breeding will have a (♥) symbol listed as their status.
On a Tygra's page: To the right of a Tygra's image, there should be an information section. The breeding section will either say "Breed with for $___ TC", or it will be blank if the Tygra is not available for breeding.
2.16 How can I tell if a Tygra is pregnant? On a den's page: To the right of a Tygra's thumbnail, there should be an information box. Tygra that are pregnant will have a (♀) symbol listed as their status.
On a Tygra's page: To the right of a Tygra's image, there should be an information section. The breeding section will say "Pregnant".

The Tygras Basics

3.1 Where can I view my Tygras? Click on "Home", then "Your Den". 3.2 How do I change my Tygra's name? Scroll down as you're viewing your Tygra's page until you see the "Name" field. Simply type in the new name, and click on "Change". 3.3 What are the different Tygra species? There are three species: the Lymber, Ocilynx, and Pygmy. 3.4 What do Tygra generations mean? You can tell how far down the family tree a Tygra is based on their generation. For example, a custom Tygra is automatically a Generation 1 Tygra, because it doesn't have any parents. If you were to breed two Generation 1 Tygras together, their cub would be Generation 2, because there are only two levels to its family tree (its parents' and its own). A cub's generation is determined by the parent with the highest generation (so if you were breed a Gen. 3 with a Gen. 5, the cub would be Gen. 6). Some members value Tygras for their lower generations, and others simply value Tygras for their markings. Just remember, the lower the generation, the more your Tygra is likely to sell for! 3.5 Can I change my Tygra's gender? You can temporarily change your Tygra's gender with the "Halo - Gender" item. After you have bred your Tygra one time, the item will disappear. 3.6 What is the base color? This is your Tygra's coat/main color. 3.7 What does that 6-digit code for my base stand for? The six-digit code is called a hex, and symbolizes a particular color. If you don't know which hex codes you want for your Tygra's colors, you either use the custom demo's color picker, or visit this website and experiment with the color slider until you get your desired colors (the hex code will show up below the large box). 3.8 How can I sell my Tygra? Scroll down as you're viewing your Tygra's page until you see the "Price" field. Type in the amount of TC you would like to receive from selling your Tygra, and click on "Change". 3.9 Where can I view my Tygra sales? To view which Tygras you are currently selling, just scroll through your den and look for the $ signs. To view Tygras you have sold in the past, go to "Home", then "Tygra Sales". 3.10 How can I breed my Tygra? First, make sure your Tygra is at least 4 days old, and hasn't given birth within the past 10 days. Then, go to your Tygra's page (male or female) and look in the breeding section. If it says "Available!", you can click on the link and choose a mate from your den to breed with that Tygra. If you want to breed your Tygra with another member's Tygra, simply click on that other Tygra's link in the breeding section (note: you will have to pay the breeding fee at that time, so be sure to have the required TC on hand!). At the moment, you do not need any items (ex. Love Pears on Wajas) in order to breed your Tygras. 3.11 How long until my cub is born? Your cub will be born exactly 96 hours (4 days) after you breed your Tygras. You can see the exact due date and time at the bottom of the pregnant Tygra's page. 3.12 How long until I can breed my Tygra again? Male Tygras can be bred as often as you want; female Tygras, however, have a pregnancy recovery period of 10 days after giving birth. This recovery period can be reduced with the use of Mew Berries (restocked in the Monastery Shop). Each Mew Berry reduces your tygra's recovery period by one day (so if you buy 10 Mew Berries, her recovery period will be reduced to 0, and she can be bred again immediately!). 3.13 What are markings? Markings are patterns that cover your Tygra's body. Different hairstyles are also considered markings at this time. To view a list of markings, click here (Ocilynx, Pygmy). Markings come in all kinds of different colors, I've just used bright red in my guides so you can see them more easily. 3.14 How can I see more details about my Tygra's markings? Scroll down a bit on any Tygra's page, and you'll see the Markings section. Click on "Show More Detail" to view the markings' names, genes, and hex codes (colors). 3.15 What do all those genes mean? The genes determine the vividness of the markings' colors, and how easily you will be able to see the markings. Click here to view the beginnings of a genetics tutorial. More on how genes are determined will be added in the weeks to come. 3.16 How can I equip items? Click on "Home", then "Inventory". Click on the item you wish you equip. When the scroll appears over the item, select "Equip", and choose which Tygra you would like to equip the item to. Go back to your Tygra's page to see how it looks! If the image hasn't changed, hit Ctrl+F5 on your keyboard to reload the page and view the new Tygra image with items attached. 3.17 How can I view all of my Tygra's ancestors? Scroll down as you're viewing your Tygra's page until you see the Parents section. To view the entire family tree, click on "Full Lineage". Keep clicking on the "Lineage" buttons below each Tygra to see the previous generations. 3.18 How can I view my Tygra's offspring? Scroll down as you're viewing your Tygra's page until you see the Offspring section. Click on "Show" to see a list of offsprings' names. You can click on these names to view the offsprings' pages. 3.19 How do I transfer my Tygra to my other account, or to a friend? Scroll down as you're viewing your Tygra's page until you see the "Transfer This Tygra" section. Just enter your second account's ID number, or your friend's ID number, and click on "Send!". Make sure you enter the correct ID number, otherwise you might not be able to get your Tygra back from the person you accidentally sent your Tygra to! 3.20 Where can I view my Tygra transfers? Click on "Home", then "Tygra Transfers".

Items

4.1 What are items? Items can be anything from clothing and accessories, to objects that alter your Tygra's status temporarily, to objects that allow you to create a custom Tygra. Clothing and accessory items will appear in your Tygra's image once equipped. Status-changing items, such as the Female/Fertility/Gender Halos, will also appear in your Tygra's image until the breeding is complete. Some items cannot be used or equipped yet... but they may have some purpose in the future! 4.2 How do I get items? Items can be bought from the shops, obtained through a sale/trade with another member, or received through random events. 4.3 Where can I view my items? Click on "Home", then "Inventory". 4.4 How do I use an item? Go to your inventory and click on the item you would like to use. Options include transferring the item to another player, trading the item, or equipping the item to a Tygra. 4.5 How do I transfer an item? Click on the item in your inventory and select "Transfer". Type in the ID number of the player you would like to send it to, then click "Send". 4.6 Where can I view my item transfers? Click on "Home", then "Item Transfers". 4.7 How do I trade an item? Please note that the trading system is not complete at this point in time; however, it is still possible to create a trade bag, in the event that a buyer wishes to have proof that the seller owns the item(s) that are being advertised in the Buy & Sell: Items forum. First, you need to create a trade bag. Click on "World", then "Trading Center". Click on "Create a new trade bag?". Give your bag a name and enter what you would like in return, then create the bag. Go to your inventory, click on the item you'd like to trade, and select "Trade". You can then add that item to any trade bag. If you would like to have your trade bag visible to other members, to go "Home", then "Your Trades", and select the trade bag. Click on the "Start Trade" button, and your trade bag will be activated! You can also search other members' trades at the Trading Center. 4.8 Where can I view my trades? Click on "Home", then "Your Trades". 4.9 Where can I view my trade offers? Click on "Home", then "Your Trade Offers".

The Monastery

5.1 Where is the monastery? Click on "World", then "Monastery". 5.2 What is the TGP shop? The TGP shop sells items that cannot be bought for the in-game currency (TC). 5.3 How do I get TGP? Click on "World", then "Donate to Tygras". To find out how you can get TGP without donating real-life money, scroll down to Question 5.9. 5.4 What can I get in the TGP shop? Currently, you can only purchase account upgrades and silver/gold keys. 5.5 What does the silver/gold Ocilynx/Pygmy key do? Silver keys allow you to create a two-marking, Generation 1 Tygra of your chosen species. Gold keys allow you to create Tygras with three markings. 5.6 How much does a silver/gold Ocilynx/Pygmy key cost? Silver keys cost 20 TGP ($20 United-States-Dollars), and gold keys cost 25 TGP ($25 United-States-Dollars). 5.7 What happens when you upgrade your account? Upgraded members earn 50% more TC per hour when they work in a shop. They are also able to wear tags/avatars. More benefits will be added in the future. 5.8 Why do I have to pay real money for TGP?! A lot of people don't realize just how much time and money it costs to keep a website like Tygras up and running. So, in order to afford the monthly Tygras bill, Julia has offered special opportunities (purchasing silver/gold keys) and priviledges (the benefits that come with an upgraded account) to those who wish to donate to Tygras. Without donations, Tygras would have to shut down! 5.9 Is there any other way to get TGP, besides paying real money? Of course! One option is to sell your Tygras for TGP instead of TC (the lower your cub's generation, the better). Another option (if you're an artist) is to offer commissions for TGP instead of TC. In addition, some members purchase TGP with the intent to sell it to other members for TC, so keep an eye on the "Buy and Sell Items" forum for threads along those lines. Finally, if you are a member of another virtual pet website (ex. Furry-Paws, Mweor, Wajas), you can offer to trade their currency for TGP (make sure the other website allows it, though). 5.10 What does the Monastery shop sell? At the moment, the Monastery shop sells Female, Fertility, and Gender Halos, as well as Mew Berries. You can learn more about these items by clicking here. 5.11 How do I open the doors? You must have the corresponding key. 5.12 How do I use the custom demo? Click on "World", then "Monastery", then "Test Customs". After choosing your species and markings, click on the blank text fields. A color finder should appear. If you don't know which hex codes you would like to use, simply use the color finder to pick out which colors you would like your base, eyes, and markings to be. Click on "Test It" when you're done to see the final result. 5.13 What's behind the hidden door? The hidden door will normally contain nothing. However, if you ever get the random event "You feel a cool breeze blow past you...", head straight for the hidden door! You will walk away feeling "somewhat richer than before"!

Searching Tygras.com

6.1 How do I view who is online right now? Click on "World", then "Online Users". This list shows users that have been active on the site within the last 10 minutes. 6.2 How do I find another player? Click on "World", then "Search Users". Searches must be at least three characters long (so submitting a blank search won't show you every member on Tygras). 6.3 What if I don't know their full name? Say you wanted to find "Puppy1234", but you couldn't remember the numbers (just that the name started with "Pup" or "Puppy"). If you type in "Pup" or "Puppy", then, you'll get a list of ALL members with "Pup" or "Puppy" as part of their player name. 6.4 How do I search for a moderator? Moderators are displayed on the online users list with a different paw color. Unconfirmed members don't have a paw showing, regular/upgraded users have a green paw, moderators have a brown paw, and administrators have a golden paw. On the user search, you can select "Moderator" from the dropdown list and enter part of their name to look them up. 6.5 How do I search for an administrator? Administrators are displayed on the online users list with a different paw color. Unconfirmed members don't have a paw showing, regular/upgraded users have a green paw, moderators have a brown paw, and administrators have a golden paw. On the user search, you can select "Administrator" from the dropdown list and enter part of their name to look them up. 6.6 How do I find Tygras? Click on "World", then "Search Tygras". 6.7 How can I find cheap Tygras for sale? If you'd like to find Tygras that are $1000 TC or less, select "Less Than" from the Sale Price's drop-down menu, then type in "1001" (you don't want to type in "1000", because that will result in a price range of 1-999 TC, not the desired 1-1000 TC). If you want to pay even less than that for a Tygra, just change the number to something lower. Generally, you won't find any Tygras selling for less than $50-100 TC. If you don't have enough TC to buy the Tygra you want, keep logging in every hour to work until you have enough!

Forums and Chat Room

7.1 What is a forum? The forum is a place that allows members to post threads/topics about anything and everything relating to Tygras. Members can view these threads and post replies. A forum is not a live chat room, so you can post your message and come back later on to see what others have said in reply. 7.2 Where are the forums? Click on "Talk", then "Forums". 7.3 What are the forum rules? At the moment, there are no specific forum rules; however, you should always abide by the Terms of Service, or TOS (click here to read them). Certain things, such as posting the same thread/message multiple times (spamming), are considered inappropriate behavior, even if it isn't in the TOS. 7.4 How do I create a new thread? First, make sure you're in the appropriate forum (ex. if you want to sell an item, make sure you're in the "Buy and Sell Items" forum, NOT the "Chit Chat" or general "Buy and Sell" forums!). Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You'll see an area where you can type in a thread's subject/title and a message. Once you're done, click on "Post New Topic". You can edit the thread's subject/title and message after creating it. 7.5 How do I post in a thread? Click on the thread's subject/title. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You'll see an area where you can type in a message. Once you're done, click on "Post". 7.6 How do I make my text a different color? Use the code <font color="#XXXXXX"> and fill out the XXXXXX with a hex code. If you don't know which hex codes you want for your font color, visit this website and experiment with the color slider until you get your desired colors (the hex code will show up below the large box). 7.7 How do I add images/links? To add images: Use the code <img src="IMAGE URL HERE"> and fill the IMAGE URL HERE part with your image's URL.
To add links: Use the code <a href="LINK URL HERE">TEXT HERE</a> and fill LINK URL HERE with the URL, and TEXT HERE with the text you want to be clickable and lead to your desired link.
7.8 Where can I view my created threads? Click on "Talk", then "Your Threads". 7.9 How do I "bump" my threads? Click on "Talk", then "Your Threads". Click the "Catnip!" button to bump your post. You can bump each of your threads every 15 minutes. 7.10 What a chat room? Unlike forums, a chat room allows you to send instant messages to other members in the chat room. This is great for members who want to have a real-time conversation with others, and don't feel like waiting for a response in the forums, or by private messages. 7.11 Where is the chat room? Click on "Talk", then "Forums", then "Live Chat". 7.12 What are the chat room rules? At the moment, there are no specific chat room rules; however, you should always abide by the Terms of Service, or TOS (click here to read them). Certain things, such as posting the same message multiple times (spamming), are considered inappropriate behavior, even if it isn't in the TOS. 7.13 What do the golden paws mean? Administrators and moderators have golden paws by their names in the chat room. 7.14 What do the white paws mean? Upgraded members have white paws by their names in the chat room. 7.15 How do I make those hearts, rainbows, etc. in the chat room? Sorry, but that's a secret only alpha members know! You'll have to figure them out for yourself. ;D

Other/Miscellaneous

8.1 How do I bookmark a page? Scroll down to the bottom of the page you would like to bookmark. On the right-hand side, there should be a link that says "Bookmark This Page". Simply click on it. 8.2 Where can I view my bookmarked pages? Click on "Other", then "Your Bookmarks". 8.3 How do I file a report? Scroll down to the bottom of any page and click on "Report Feature". Select the type of report you would like to make, and include as much information in the following section as possible. If the event occurred earlier in the day, feel free to edit the date/time, but it's not necessary. Once you're done, click on "Submit". 8.4 Where can I view my reports? Click on "Other", then "Your Reports". 8.5 How do I send a private message to someone? Click on "Messages", then "New Message". Type in the member's ID number, a subject/title for your message, and the message itself. Once you have filled everything in, click on "Send". You can also view a member's profile page, and click on the link that says "Message This User". 8.6 Where can I view my private messages? Click on "Messages". This first page will show you all the messages other members have sent you. To see the messages you have sent to other members, click on "Outbox". 8.7 Where can I view the latest Tygras news? Click on "Help", then "News". 8.8 Is there a list of staff members? Click on "Other", then "Staff". 8.9 How can I become a staff member for Tygras.com? At the moment, Julia is not looking for any more staff members; however, as more and more members join, it is likely that she will begin to look for moderators to keep an eye on the forums and chat room. 8.10 How can I become an artist for Tygras.com? The only official Tygras artist at this time is Quinnick (#4). You can, however, receive an "Officially Artistic" award for artistic contributions made to the site via the Suggestions forum! 8.11 What are "forever upgraded" accounts, and how can I get one? Forever upgraded accounts were available during Tygras' alpha phase for $65 United-States-Dollars. They are no longer available.

The Tygras Database

9.1 What is the Tygras Database? The TygrasDB (or DB for short) was the first fansite ever created! It offers many guides, tutorials, and resources for Tygras members. You can find a link to the DB from Tygras.com by clicking on "Help", then "Offsite Guides". 9.2 Who is in charge of the DB? 9That would be myself, Silver (#11). :D 9.3 How can I become a staff member/contributor for the DB? I doubt that I will ever want to have a "staff" for something as manageable as the TygrasDB. Contributors are always welcomed, however, and I like to pay them in TC for their time and effort. :D 9.4 I really like your guides/tutorials, may I use them on my own website? NO. You are more than welcomed to LINK BACK to the guide/tutorial, but I do not allow the direct posting of any text or images found on the DB to any other website (unless it's just a small blurb, like a question and answer from this FAQ page). Under certain circumstances, I may make exceptions, but you MUST contact me first. If I find that anyone has not asked for permission first (even if you have credited me for the information), I will do whatever is within my power to ensure that the text and/or images are removed, whether it be on Tygras or on a fansite. So please, don't do it. :( 9.5 I have a Tygras fansite, how can I link to you and have you link back to me? Contact me with all relevant information (your site's name, URL, description, and a banner/button to link back to you). In return, I will send you all relevant information about the DB. Once you have added a link back to the DB on your fansite, I will do the same for you. :) 9.6 How can I get in touch with you? There are several ways in which you can contact me. The first (and best method) would be to message me on Tygras (Silver, #11). The second would be to e-mail me. Finally, if you would prefer to contact me via instant messaging, my AIM/MSN/YIM screen names are "Silverkinz" (but contrary to popular belief, I am NOT online 24/7, so please don't be surprised if you can't get ahold of me... if that's the case, try messaging or e-mailing me).
